Don’t know if you saw it but there was an interesting short piece on homing pigeons on the BBC ‘The One Show’ tonight (20/02/08)

They showed a guy who is mapping pigeon flights by GPS to show how the pigeon navigates it way home via the landscape and built environment below. It also said that their brains had to work incredibly efficiently due to them having one of the smallest brains in the animal kingdom.
